Skyridge's girls tennis team upset higher-seeded Corner Canyon to reach the Region 3 final and lock in a 6A state tournament berth.

The third-seeded Falcons beat No. 2 Corner Canyon 5-2 in the semifinal on Thursday, Sept. 24, at Skyridge, as first reported by Lehi Free Press. They fell 6-1 to No. 1 Lone Peak in the final on Friday, Sept. 25, finishing second overall. The result sends Skyridge into the state bracket.

Several Falcons posted strong individual results in the semifinal win. Sophomore Maezie Oswald won at No. 3 Singles 6-1, 6-1. Senior Molly Jarvie took No. 4 Singles 6-3, 6-2. Senior Libby Ludlow won a three-set match at No. 2 Singles 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, and sophomore Kiri Sperry pushed Corner Canyon senior Evelyn Marsh to three sets at No. 1 Singles before falling 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Senior Addison Uffens and sophomore Kate Jarvie clinched the semifinal at No. 3 Doubles, beating Corner Canyon 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. Sophomores Anabelle Rowley and Chloe Barker also won at No. 1 Doubles in three sets.

Lone Peak controlled the final. Skyridge managed just one win: Kate Jarvie and Oswald, reshuffled to No. 3 Doubles, beat Lone Peak's Maude Darby and Scarlet Patterson 7-6 (7-4), 2-6, 0-0 (10-2).

The UHSAA will release the 6A state bracket Thursday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m. That bracket will reveal Skyridge's first-round opponent and seeding.

The 6A play-in round is set for Saturday, Oct. 3, at 8 a.m. at Brighton High School, 2220 E. Bengal Blvd. in Cottonwood Heights. Championship rounds follow Thursday, Oct. 8, and Saturday, Oct. 10, at 9 a.m. at Liberty Park Tennis Center, 1105 S. Constitution Dr. in Salt Lake City, according to the UHSAA spectator guide.

Skyridge's draw and match time will be posted at uhsaa.org once the bracket goes live Thursday morning.
