Skyridge carries a six-game win streak and the No. 1 6A RPI ranking into Highland on Friday, Oct. 2. The Falcons face Lone Peak at 7 p.m. in a Region 3 game televised on KJZZ/KMYU.

The matchup pits two area programs heading in opposite directions. Skyridge (6-1, 2-0 Region 3) sits atop the region standings after beating Corner Canyon 37-27 on Sept. 25. Lone Peak (3-4, 0-2) has dropped back-to-back region games to Corner Canyon and American Fork and needs a win to stay in the playoff conversation.

Skyridge's defense has been the story of the Falcons' streak. Against Corner Canyon, the unit picked off five passes and forced three turnovers on downs. Senior linebacker Sa Tanuvasa recorded 15 tackles and two interceptions. Junior linebacker Jackson Horsley returned a pick 31 yards for a touchdown, and junior defensive back Ethan Schriever took one back 83 yards for another score.

The defense carried the night.

"Man, for the whole week, our defense was all about consistency and discipline," Tanuvasa said after the Corner Canyon win on Sept. 25. "I have to give praise to the D-line and the DB's …"

On offense, running backs Beckham Bennett (13 carries, 109 yards, two touchdowns) and Ului Faletau (19 carries, 87 yards, one touchdown) powered the ground game against the Chargers. Junior quarterback Jagger Fountaine threw for 342 yards and three touchdowns in the Falcons' region opener, a 28-20 win over Lehi on Sept. 17.

Skyridge head coach Justin Hemm said after the Corner Canyon victory that winning the turnover battle gave his offense great field position all night.

Lone Peak's Sept. 24 loss to American Fork ended on a disputed final play. Receiver Jaxon Cloward, a senior, hauled in a 29-yard pass from backup quarterback Marshall Durfey as time expired, but the side judge ruled Cloward's knee hit the ground before the ball reached the end zone. The Herald Extra reported the final score as American Fork 28, Lone Peak 24.

Durfey started in place of senior quarterback Cruz Christansen, who has thrown for 623 yards and eight touchdowns this season. Christansen did not play against American Fork.

The Sept. 25 Corner Canyon win was the first time Skyridge had beaten the Chargers since the 2022 6A state championship game, according to the Deseret News. Corner Canyon had won three consecutive state titles since that loss.

Skyridge finishes its Region 3 schedule with one more game after Friday, against American Fork.
