Lone Peak hosts American Fork Thursday as 9.5-point favorite

Lone Peak hosts American Fork in a Region 3 football game at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24. The Deseret News' Parry's Power Guide picks the Knights as 9.5-point favorites.

The Knights carry a power rating of 129.7 to American Fork's 120.2. But Deseret News high school sports editor James Edward disagrees with the spread. His "Edward's Edge" pick goes to the Cavemen.

Lone Peak (3-3) enters the game after a 37-14 loss to No. 1 Corner Canyon on Sept. 18. In that game, Corner Canyon's Jaxon Pehrson ran for three touchdowns, and defensive backs Diesel Dart and Will Tenney each returned interceptions for scores, according to the Deseret News. It was Corner Canyon's first regular-season win over the Knights in three years, according to SI.com's Mountain West Top 25.

American Fork (5-1) has won five of six games. The No. 8-ranked Cavemen erased an early 14-3 deficit against Davis on Sept. 18, scoring 23 unanswered points behind three field goals from Jace Worthington and two touchdown passes from Jake Matsen.

Skyridge, Lehi face steep Friday odds

Skyridge (5-1) hosts No. 1 Corner Canyon at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, on KJZZ/KMYU. Parry's Power Guide lists the Falcons as 21.7-point underdogs. Corner Canyon's power rating sits at 145.9, the highest of any team in the three local matchups. Edward's Edge also picks Corner Canyon.

The Falcons earned the No. 6 ranking in the Mountain West Top 25 after beating rival Lehi 28-20 on Sept. 17. Quarterback Jagger Fountaine completed 22 of 35 passes for 342 yards and three touchdowns in that game, hitting Omarian Sanders for 104 yards and two scores and sophomore Malosi Shepard for 102 yards and another.

"I was proud of our boys and of the resiliency and toughness they showed tonight," Skyridge head coach Justin Hemm said after the Lehi win, as reported by the Lehi Free Press on Sept. 19.

Lehi (3-3) travels to No. 7 Herriman (6-0) at 7 p.m. Friday. Parry's guide makes the Pioneers 9.4-point underdogs, with a power rating of 110.9 to Herriman's 120.3. Edward's Edge picks Herriman. The Pioneers have lost three of their last four home games, according to MaxPreps, and now face a road test against a Mustangs squad that beat Westlake 48-7 in Week 6.
