Highland City is bringing real reindeer, Santa and Mrs. Claus, and a Christmas tree lighting to the Town Center Splash Pad on Monday, Nov. 23.
The free event runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at 5400 W. Civic Center Drive, next to City Hall. Santa arrives at 6 p.m., followed by the tree lighting, according to Highland City's Instagram.
The Highland Bell Ringers and Highland Children's Choir will perform. The Highland City Library will host holiday crafts. Families can expect complimentary hot cocoa donated by Meiers Meats & Fine Foods and freshly baked donuts donated by Macey's in Highland, the city said.
The celebration has grown since Highland's Christmas light display began in 2020. Live reindeer and a Santa visit were added in 2024, and the event moved to the Town Center last year, according to Echelon Luxury Homes' reporting on the event's history. In 2025, a Highland Youth Council refreshment booth served donuts and hot chocolate while visitors walked the lights.
This year, the City Council favored a hybrid approach. The main gathering stays at the Town Center, while lights will also go up at Heritage Park. On Oct. 6, the council gave verbal support to a $10,000 budget request to begin purchasing lights and decorations for Heritage Park and at least one entry road, according to the Oct. 6 council brief as reported by Echelon. That item was recorded as a communication, not a formal vote.
The splash pad light display stayed up through December last year. Highland City has not yet announced whether the walk-through display will return this season.
