Skyridge scored 28 first-quarter points in a driving rainstorm and never looked back, shutting out Riverton 45-0 in the 6A state tournament first round Friday, Oct. 30, at Falcon Stadium.

The top-seeded Falcons (9-1) piled up 466 total yards against the No. 16 Silverwolves (2-9), according to MaxPreps. That marked Skyridge's highest yardage total of the season and extended the team's winning streak to nine games.

Cold rain turned the turf into a sheet of water all night. It didn't matter.

Junior quarterback Jagger Fountaine completed 19 of 24 passes for 254 yards with two touchdowns and added 32 yards and a score on six carries, the Lehi Free Press reported. Junior running back Beckham Bennett opened the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run through the slush and finished with 68 yards on six carries.

Fountaine then connected with senior receiver Omarian Sanders on a 31-yard touchdown strike. Senior running back Amanaki Levatau punched in a one-yard score, and Fountaine capped the quarter with a two-yard rushing touchdown. Just like that, 28-0.

Junior receiver Koa Wallwork picked up 82 yards on five catches in the first half, helping move the chains in the downpour.

Fountaine and Sanders hooked up again in the second quarter on a 23-yard touchdown pass to push the lead to 35-0 at halftime, triggering a running clock for the second half.

Sanders caught both of Fountaine's touchdown passes. "Shout out to my quarterback Jagger who always gets the ball where it needs to be," Sanders told the Lehi Free Press.

Defense smothers Silverwolves

The Falcon defense loaded the box and dared Riverton to run. Senior defensive lineman Carter Seu recorded a sack and multiple tackles. Senior linebackers Sa Tanuvasa and Rex Caswell plugged gaps and made tackles all over the field, according to the Lehi Free Press.

Riverton's ball carriers struggled to grip the wet football under constant pressure. The Falcons collapsed the pocket repeatedly, forcing fumbled exchanges and errant passes.

Depth on display in second half

With the game well in hand, junior backup quarterback Cannon Tripp entered in the third quarter and hit senior receiver Dax Rehrer on a 40-yard touchdown pass. Rehrer finished with 115 yards on five catches to lead all receivers.

Junior kicker Evan Kopp sealed the 45-0 final with an 18-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Head coach Justin Hemm credited preparation. "The boys have had a good approach the last two weeks with some really great practices. They came out and executed at a high level tonight," Hemm told the Lehi Free Press.

Wallwork said defensive players filled in at receiver during practice after some pass catchers were unavailable. "Practice was efficient these past two weeks, and we worked to know what to do and what we could do and it paid off tonight," Wallwork said.
