No. 2 Skyridge faces No. 6 American Fork and No. 4 Lone Peak draws defending champion No. 1 Corner Canyon on Wednesday, Oct. 28, according to the Lehi Free Press. The Skyridge-American Fork semifinal tips at 10 a.m. on Court 3.
Skyridge dominates both rounds
The Falcons never allowed more than 16 points in any set across six sets on the day, the Deseret News reported. Skyridge opened with a 25-13, 25-16, 25-11 sweep of No. 15 Riverton, then dispatched Weber in straight sets. Sources disagreed on the second-set score against Weber: the Deseret News reported 25-15, 25-15, 25-12, while the Lehi Free Press and Daily Herald both reported 25-15, 25-14, 25-12.
Emma White led Skyridge with nine kills in the quarterfinal. Sienna Kuresa finished with eight kills and four aces. Lucy Meck and Anzlee Holt each added six kills.
Lone Peak rolls to semifinal date with Corner Canyon
The Knights swept No. 13 Layton in the first round. The Deseret News reported set scores of 25-12, 25-12, 25-19, while the Daily Herald reported 25-12, 25-12, 25-18.
In the quarterfinal, Lone Peak beat No. 5 Mountain Ridge 3-1 (25-10, 25-18, 18-25, 25-14). Senior Ava Burgess, a Stanford commit back from time with the U.S. U19 and U21 national teams and a knee injury, led the way. The Deseret News credited Burgess with 17 kills, while the Daily Herald reported 21 kills and 14 digs.
After taking the first two sets, Lone Peak dropped the third before regrouping to close the match in the fourth.
"Our intensity picked up a little bit, and we started going after balls that we were letting drop in that one set," Lone Peak coach Kalee Faumui told the Daily Herald.
Sophomore Chevelle Peters added 12 kills and Cree Cooper had 10. Lone Peak is the only Utah team to beat Corner Canyon this season, winning in four sets on Oct. 13.
