Thanksgiving Point fills September with festivals, $5 days

Thanksgiving Point in Lehi has four events on its September calendar, starting with the 37th Timpanogos Storytelling Festival on Sept. 10.

The festival, a two-day quilt show with more than 500 works, an autumn garden showcase and $5 admission Tuesdays round out a busy month at the Lehi campus.

Timpanogos Storytelling Festival

The storytelling festival runs Thursday, Sept. 10, through Saturday, Sept. 12, at 3003 North Thanksgiving Way. Organized by the Timpanogos Storytelling Institute, the festival bills itself as the largest of its kind in the western United States, according to the institute's history page.

Thursday's schedule begins with a $10 "Sneak Peek" at 3 p.m. that includes access to Ashton Gardens, music and stories in tents, according to a KSL Events listing. Friday and Saturday feature full daytime performances plus themed evening concerts: Bedtime Stories for families ($5), Story Showcase ($15), Shivers ($15) and Saturday's closing Last Laugh finale ($20).

Full-event passes cost $75 for adults, $65 for seniors and students, and $45 for children. Single-day passes run $50, $40 and $30. Tickets are available at timpfest.org.

Garden of Quilts

Garden of Quilts takes over Ashton Gardens on Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19. Presented in partnership with Riley Blake Designs, the show displays more than 500 quilts throughout the gardens and offers more than 80 classes, demonstrations, trunk shows and shopping, according to Thanksgiving Point's September events guide. Friday hours run 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday hours run 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are available online or at the door.

Autumn Bloom Showcase

The Autumn Bloom Showcase follows Wednesday, Sept. 23, through Saturday, Sept. 26, at Ashton Gardens. Sunflowers, mums, dahlias, ornamental kale and roses fill the gardens alongside hands-on stations for watercolor painting, scent testing, seed observation and flower crafts. The Utah Dahlia Society will have displays on site. Every showcase ticket includes a return pass for a cut dahlia and sunflower sale while supplies last, according to Thanksgiving Point.

$5 Tuesdays

Families looking for a lower-cost visit can take advantage of $5 Tuesdays all month. Every Tuesday in September, admission to seven Thanksgiving Point venues drops to $5 per person, per venue. Participating locations include the Butterfly Biosphere, Curiosity Farms, Mountain America Museum of Ancient Life, Museum of Natural Curiosity, Ashton Gardens, Canopy Tours and Mountain America Jurassic Jungle.
