Top-seeded Lone Peak routed No. 8 Layton 4-0 on Thursday, Oct. 15, to reach the 6A girls soccer semifinals.
Sadie Stratton scored twice to lead the Knights. Londyn Thomsen and Ava Scoville each added a goal, while Sami Schiffman, Katherine Mason and Macie Leavitt picked up assists. Goalkeeper Scotlyn Schlosser recorded the shutout, according to a Deseret News recap of Thursday's 6A quarterfinals.
It was a different story from the first round. On Oct. 13, Lone Peak needed a penalty shootout to get past No. 16 Skyridge after a 2-2 draw. The Knights won three consecutive state titles from 2022 to 2024 before Syracuse ended the streak with a 2-0 championship victory last year. Head coach Shantel Jolley's squad went 8-0 in Region 3 during the regular season and entered the bracket as the top overall seed.
Lone Peak will face No. 4 American Fork in the semifinals on Monday, Oct. 19, at noon at Zions Bank Stadium. American Fork advanced with a 2-0 win over No. 5 Corner Canyon on Thursday behind two goals from Cambree Ballard.
Lehi falls to Farmington 2-1
No. 6 Lehi's season ended Thursday in a 2-1 loss to No. 3 Farmington.
Morgan Snell opened the scoring for the Phoenix, and Katie Bennett added a second goal. Oaklee Stanford assisted on both scores. Aly Badger tallied Lehi's lone goal, but the Pioneers could not find an equalizer against a Farmington defense that allowed just 0.9 goals per game during the regular season.
The loss stings. Lehi entered the quarterfinals at 11-8 after 14 different players found the net during the regular season and first round. Lillie Watson led the team with 13 goals heading into Thursday. Badger, who finished with five goals on the season, also scored in the first-round win over Herriman on Oct. 13 alongside Baker and Watson.
Fourth-year head coach Jonas Hartmann knew the road would be difficult. In an August season preview with the Lehi Free Press, he said, "I would expect Syracuse, Davis, Lone Peak and others to make a run too and once we hit the playoffs there are no teams that can be taken lightly."
Farmington will meet No. 2 Davis in the other 6A semifinal on Oct. 19 at 2:15 p.m. at Zions Bank Stadium.
