Lehi High graduate Legend Glasker will be on the field Friday, Oct. 9, when No. 8 BYU hosts Iowa State at LaVell Edwards Stadium in Provo.
His second cousin won't be.
Linebacker Isaiah Glasker has been ruled out with a knee injury for the matchup (8:15 p.m. MDT, ESPN), according to BYU's official availability report released Tuesday, Oct. 6. The linebacker hurt his knee blocking for Faletau Satuala after an interception during BYU's 17-10 win at TCU on Saturday, Oct. 3, and did not return.
Legend Glasker, the true freshman wide receiver, is healthy and remains BYU's leading receiver. Through four games he has 14 catches for 279 yards and two touchdowns, plus 10 carries for 68 yards and two rushing scores. Iowa State's own game primer called him "the second FBS wide receiver over the last 30 years to have multiple rushing/receiving scores through four career games."
He earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors twice in the season's first three weeks.
The Cougars (4-0, 2-0 Big 12) enter the game ranked eighth nationally but banged up. Running back LJ Martin (ankle) and running back Sione Moa are also listed as out. Safety Raider Damuni is doubtful. Cornerback Cannon DeVries, who left the TCU game with a lower-leg injury, is listed as probable.
Kansas State transfer Jake Clifton, a junior, has replaced Isaiah Glasker on the depth chart at the rover linebacker spot, the Deseret News reported Tuesday, Oct. 6.
After the Oct. 3 win, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake said of the injured players: "The good thing is that (Glasker) was standing and moving, so we'll have to evaluate that." Isaiah Glasker was scheduled for an MRI on Sunday, Oct. 4, his father said, according to the Deseret News.
Legend Glasker scored three touchdowns in his BYU debut, a 63-7 win over Utah Tech on Sept. 5. After the Sept. 5 game, he told reporters, "Coming into the game, I really wanted to score. So, I mean, three was a surprise."
Glasker enrolled early at BYU in January along with fellow Lehi High graduate Devaughn Eka so both could participate in spring practice. BYU receivers coach Fesi Sitake told the Deseret News on Sept. 9 that Glasker "knows the playbook like he's been here for a couple of years. … He checks all the boxes."
Iowa State (3-2, 1-1 Big 12) visits Provo for the Friday night kickoff. BYU's next game after that is a home matchup against No. 3 Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 17.
