Northbound I-15 drivers through Lehi will squeeze into a single lane at the 2100 North interchange for months as crews build foundations for a new freeway connection.

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) began nightly lane closures at Exit 282 on Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to a UDOT press release. Closures continue each night except Friday through the morning of Monday, Oct. 12. Once the lanes shift toward the center median, that new traffic pattern is expected to stay in place through May 2027.

The nightly work gives crews room to relocate utilities, build a stabilizing soil wall and start pouring foundations for the rebuilt 2100 North interchange.

Closure schedule

Each closure night, lane reductions begin at 7 p.m. and northbound travel narrows to one lane by midnight.

  • Wednesday, Oct. 7, and Thursday, Oct. 8: All lanes reopen by 4 a.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 9: No closures. UDOT is keeping all lanes open for drivers heading to Provo for Brigham Young University's homecoming football game.
  • Saturday, Oct. 10: All lanes reopen by 7 a.m. Sunday.
  • Sunday, Oct. 11: All lanes reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12.

What's being built

The lane shift is part of the $621 million 2100 North freeway connection, a 2.8-mile road linking Mountain View Corridor directly to I-15 along State Route 194 in Lehi. UDOT broke ground in March.

The finished freeway, expected in late 2028, would also include 14 new bridges, two pedestrian bridges and nearly two miles of shared-use paths. Traffic engineers estimate the connection will save east-west commuters about 12 minutes each way during peak hours, according to UDOT.

The 2100 North project is one piece of a nearly $1.4 billion state investment in northwest Utah County transportation. UDOT said the new link is expected to ease congestion on Redwood Road (State Route 68), which the agency calls one of the most congested corridors in the county.

Andrew Jordan, UDOT project director, said in March when the agency announced construction that linking Mountain View Corridor directly to I-15 will make regional travel easier for residents across northwest Utah County.

UDOT cautioned that construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. Residents can reach the project's public information team at 385-510-2700 or [email protected].
