Evan Kopp drilled a 19-yard field goal as time expired Friday, lifting Skyridge to a 27-24 win over Lone Peak in a Region 3 thriller at Highland.

The junior kicker's walk-off boot capped a back-and-forth game between two Alpine School District rivals, according to the Deseret News. Skyridge improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in Region 3. Lone Peak dropped to 3-4 and 0-3 in region play.

Skyridge junior running back Beckham Bennett carried the Falcons' offense with three touchdowns. His 30-yard scoring run late in the third quarter stretched the lead to 24-9.

It didn't stay that way.

Lone Peak stormed back in the fourth quarter behind Ledger Holmes, who scored on a 5-yard run and threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Mailo Niumeitolu. The Knights erased a 15-point deficit and pulled within 24-21.

Zachary Zolman then tied it at 24 with his third field goal of the game. Zolman's leg accounted for nine of the Knights' points.

Kopp answered. The Falcons drove into field-goal range in the closing seconds, and Kopp split the uprights from 19 yards with zeros on the clock.

The finish matched the pre-game hype. The Deseret News Parry's Power Guide entering Week 8 rated Skyridge just 1.8 points ahead of Lone Peak. Entering the game, Skyridge was ranked No. 2 in the KSL Sports statewide poll and No. 5 in the Mountain West regional rankings. Lone Peak sat at No. 14 in both polls.

The win extended Skyridge's streak to seven consecutive victories since a Week 1 loss. The Falcons beat Corner Canyon 37-27 on Saturday, Sept. 26 to take the Region 3 lead. Coach Justin Hemm emphasized the approach fueling the run after that game.

"We talked this week about winning the line of scrimmage (on) both sides of the ball, taking care of the football and being great on special teams," Hemm said after the Corner Canyon win, as reported by the Deseret News.

That formula held against Lone Peak. Bennett, who rushed for 109 yards and two scores in the Corner Canyon game, found the end zone three times Friday.

For Lone Peak, the loss marked a third straight region defeat after falling to American Fork 28-24 on Thursday, Sept. 24. The Knights have yet to win a Region 3 game this season.
