Lehi sophomore Sahasya Raj Sandepogu rallied from a 1-6 first-set deficit to reach the Third Singles quarterfinals at the 6A state tennis tournament Thursday, Oct. 8, at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.

Sandepogu's comeback and a Second Doubles opening-round win by senior Breckyn Hollindrake and junior Claire Thatcher were the highlights for the Pioneers, who finished 10th with nine points. That ended Lehi's season.

Lone Peak won the team title with 53 points, as we reported Oct. 11. Bingham was third with 42, Skyridge second with 46, Corner Canyon fourth with 27 and American Fork fifth with 21, according to the Lehi Free Press.

Sandepogu, seeded No. 8 in Third Singles, dropped the first set 1-6 to No. 9 Charlie Moultrie of Davis. She won the next two 6-2, 6-4 to advance. In the quarterfinals, No. 1 Lily Goodwin of Lone Peak ended her run 6-0, 6-1.

Hollindrake and Thatcher, seeded No. 6 in Second Doubles, dropped the first set 5-7 to No. 11 Farmington's Lenna Wolfgramm and Audra Hinckley. They took the next two sets 6-3, 6-2 to advance. No. 3 Alivia Moss and Chloe Brown of Bingham eliminated them in the quarterfinals 6-2, 6-2.

The Pioneers' other entries fell in the Round of 16. In First Singles, No. 8 senior Ella Gonzalez lost to No. 9 Grace Chapman of Davis 6-1, 6-4. In Second Singles, No. 7 junior Kinley Olson lost to No. 10 Bella Harris of American Fork 6-3, 6-4. Harris had lost to Olson at the Region 3 tournament but reversed the result at state. In First Doubles, No. 11 seniors Liberty Salcido and Abigail Cox fell to No. 6 Copper Hills' Sage Tobler and Ivy Anderson 6-0, 6-4.

"Overall, I'm happy with how our season turned out," Coach Glen Zobell told the Lehi Free Press. "We've had big wins and close losses, though it's not all about what happens in their matches and practices."

Zobell said the team built traditions in community service and the classroom that he expects to carry forward. Sandepogu, a sophomore, and Olson, a junior, were two of Lehi's top three singles players this fall.
