Seventy-five volunteers hauled displays indoors after rain pounded Lehi's Civic Center on Saturday, Aug. 29. By afternoon, the 13th annual Lehi Heritage Day had drawn hundreds of residents and out-of-town visitors to the Lehi Legacy Center and Civic Center.

The free celebration, which ran from 2:30 to 6 p.m., featured an old-time car show, honoree recognition and a new Quest Passport game organized by the Lehi Historical Society. The scavenger-hunt-style program sent participants to 26 historical markers around town, where they snapped photos and earned raffle tickets. Additional tickets went to those who stopped at tables where representatives from historic sites told stories behind each marker.

Players ranged from 6-year-olds to 96-year-old Arlo Brems, who came with his daughter, Leslie Christofferson. Brems said that as a boy he crossed several railroad tracks from Lehi Junction to reach his grandmother's house.

Event chairman Nicole Kunze said the passport game brought new faces to the Historical Society, which organized the event with sponsorship from Lehi City, SIRQ Construction and Strata Network.

"I think the Lehi Historical Society has made some amazing new friends this summer with all the people who have discovered Lehi's history through the historical marker quest," Kunze told the Lehi Free Press.

Kunze said the weather forced a fast pivot. Volunteers set up displays outdoors, tore them down when the storm hit and rebuilt everything inside the Civic Center. The new building served as an impromptu backup venue for its first major community event.

Lehi Historical Society Director Lara Bangerter said a visitor told one of the volunteers they had no idea the community held so much history. Bangerter credited Kunze with creating the marker quest concept.

The afternoon wrapped with a raffle drawing. Prizes included gift cards and a KitchenAid mixer, which went to a young cheerleader who handed it to her mother.

This year marked the first time the event was not held on Labor Day. The Lehi Historical Society has not announced a 2027 date. Residents can contact the society at (801) 768-1570 for updates.
