Skyridge, Lehi and Lone Peak all earned 6A state playoff berths. The three programs open postseason play Oct. 30 after a bye week under the UHSAA's new format.
It is the first time all three area schools have reached the 6A bracket together, and the draw delivered a rivalry rematch. No. 10 Lehi (5-5) travels to No. 7 Lone Peak (5-5) for a first-round game at 6 p.m. in Highland. The Knights won the teams' Region 3 meeting 14-7 on Oct. 8, according to a Deseret News roundup. Lone Peak closed the regular season by beating Bingham 32-14 in its finale, as we reported Oct. 16.
The Pioneers finished 1-3 in Region 3 and ranked No. 10 in the final 6A RPI, according to the Lehi Free Press. If Lehi wins, the Pioneers would face either No. 2 Mountain Ridge (10-0) or No. 15 Cedar Valley (1-9) in the Nov. 6 quarterfinals at the higher seed's home field.
Top-seeded Skyridge (8-1, 4-0 Region 3) earned the No. 1 RPI ranking in 6A after edging Mountain Ridge on strength of schedule, the Lehi Free Press reported. The Falcons will host their first-round game at 6 p.m. on Oct. 30. The Lehi Free Press identified Skyridge's opponent as No. 16 Riverton (2-8), while the Deseret News bracket listed No. 16 Herriman. That bracket also listed Herriman as the No. 4 seed in a separate matchup, suggesting a possible error in that source.
Skyridge ran through Region 3 unbeaten. The Falcons beat Lone Peak 27-24 on Oct. 2 in Highland and topped Corner Canyon 37-27 in late September to claim the region title. Head Coach Justin Hemm's squad also holds the No. 2 MaxPreps ranking in 6A and statewide.
A Skyridge win in the first round would set up a home quarterfinal on Nov. 6 against the winner of No. 8 American Fork (6-4) and No. 9 Copper Hills (7-3).
All Oct. 30 kickoffs default to 6 p.m. unless the competing schools agree to a different time. Lone Peak hosts the Lehi game in Highland, and Skyridge hosts at home in Lehi.
