A $2.50 shared-van service covering nine north Utah County communities celebrates its grand opening Thursday, Aug. 27, at Lehi FrontRunner Station.

UTA On Demand began carrying passengers Aug. 17 across a 77-square-mile zone spanning portions of Eagle Mountain, Saratoga Springs, Lehi, American Fork, Pleasant Grove, Lindon, Highland, Cedar Hills and Alpine. Utah County and the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) are funding the program at $3 million to $4 million per year under a five-year contract with the Utah Transit Authority (UTA).

Sixteen vans operate Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Rides are capped at six miles unless a passenger is heading to a FrontRunner station. The $2.50 fare drops to $1 for qualified reduced-fare riders and includes free transfers to bus, TRAX and FrontRunner within two hours.

Utah County Commission Chair Skyler Beltran, UDOT Transit Division Director Jim Golden and UTA Executive Director Jay Fox are scheduled to speak at the 11 a.m. ceremony at 3101 N. Ashton Blvd. Media availability and light refreshments follow at 11:30 a.m.

"You can pick up your ride from your door and then take the Lehi Frontrunner to downtown Salt Lake, to Provo, all in one trip - for one price," Beltran told Fox 13 on Aug. 20.

Key destinations in the zone include Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi, Saratoga Springs Emergency, Eagle Mountain Senior Center and several middle and junior high schools. During peak hours, some riders may receive a Lyft ride instead of a UTA van.

The zone is UTA's sixth On Demand area statewide, joining existing zones in South Davis County, Salt Lake City's west side, southern Salt Lake County, Tooele County and West Provo/Orem.

Beltran told KUTV on Aug. 23 that he approached UTA in early 2025 about the underserved area. The county is paying for the service with its "fifth-fifth" tax dollars, a dedicated transit fund created by the state Legislature. Eagle Mountain was the ninth fastest-growing U.S. city in 2025, and $1.4 billion in road projects are underway in the area, Beltran said.

The pilot will also gather data on trip patterns that could shape future transit expansion in the region, according to Fox 13.
