Skyridge senior Tanner Porter fired a 4-under-par 64 to finish second individually, and the Falcons posted a team score of 289 to claim second place at a four-team pre-season meet Monday, Aug. 10, at Lakeside Golf Course in West Bountiful.

The result marks a sharp turnaround from the season opener a week earlier, when Skyridge finished seventh out of 10 teams at the Northern Utah Invitational with a combined 305. The Falcons shaved 16 strokes off that total in the second outing.

Weber won the meet at 279. Skyridge edged American Fork by just two strokes (291), with Cedar Valley fourth at 308, according to the Lehi Free Press.

Porter's 64 trailed only the Weber medalist for the day's low score. Freshman Jraice Finau, an accomplished junior golfer in his first high school season, tied for fourth at even-par 72. Junior Landon Makin added a 73 and sophomore Carter Wilson rounded out the four counted scores with a 76.

Senior Brandon Young and sophomore Dylan Hymas each shot 78, while junior Hayes Mauss carded an 81 and junior Jack Jones posted an 82.

JV squad edges American Fork

The Skyridge JV team won its competition outright with a 314, beating American Fork by two strokes. Weber finished third at 323 and Cedar Valley fourth at 372.

Junior Klive Fuhriman and sophomore Bridger Warr led the JV group with matching 77s. Juniors Ty Christofferson and Hudson Murphy each shot 80 to complete the four counted scores.

Region 3 opens Monday

Skyridge coach Tenille Slack's squad now turns to the competition that counts. The first Region 3 tournament is Monday, Aug. 17, at the Mountain Dell Canyon Course in Parley's Canyon, about 12 miles east of Salt Lake City.

Tee time is 8:30 a.m.

The Canyon Course sits at 6,000 feet of elevation and features nearly 400 feet of elevation change, a test that will challenge the Falcons' depth. Skyridge finished 13th at the 6A state tournament last season but returned nearly its entire roster, graduating just three seniors.

Lehi's boys golf team, which opened its season with a 22-under 266 on Aug. 10 that beat the field by 46 strokes, also competes in Region 3 and will be at Mountain Dell on Monday.
