Primary Children's Hospital in Lehi earned national rankings in all 11 pediatric specialties evaluated by U.S. News & World Report. The 2026-27 Best Children's Hospitals list, released Tuesday, Sept. 15, covers the three-campus Intermountain system in Salt Lake City, Lehi and Taylorsville.

It is the third straight year the system has ranked in every category.

This time, the hospitals climbed into the national top 25 in seven specialties, up from six last year. Pediatric neonatology (No. 19) and cancer care (No. 20) cracked the top 25 for the first time. The Lehi campus is at 2250 N. Miller Campus Drive, a short drive for families in Alpine, Highland and Cedar Hills.

"Being recognized in all 11 pediatric specialty categories reflects … the trust that children and families place in us every day," said Mandy Richards, president of Intermountain Children's Health and chief nursing executive for Intermountain Health.

The system's highest-ranked programs are orthopedics and cardiology and heart surgery, both at No. 11 nationally. Neurology and neurosurgery ranked No. 12, urology No. 15 and nephrology No. 17.

Four more specialties earned top-50 recognition: gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 27), diabetes and endocrinology (No. 30), pulmonology and lung surgery (No. 40) and behavioral health. U.S. News designates behavioral health as top 50 without assigning a numerical rank.

Dustin Lipson, president of the Salt Lake City campus, credited the partnership between Intermountain Health and University of Utah Health for expanding advanced therapies across the region.

Dr. Angelo P. Giardino, chair of the University of Utah School of Medicine's Department of Pediatrics and chief medical officer of Intermountain Children's Health, said the collaboration has helped recruit top physicians and improve outcomes for children.

The rankings, now in their 20th year, recognized 90 hospitals nationally as top performers. Eleven earned honor-roll status. Primary Children's was not among the honor-roll selections.

ABC4 first reported the local rankings. The hospitals operate in partnership with University of Utah Health and serve patients from a seven-state region, according to an Intermountain Health statement.

The annual rankings return next year for the 2027-28 cycle.
