The Lehi Library is offering two free programs on the same Wednesday evening Sept. 2, giving families a reason to visit the new Civic Center space as the school year begins.

First up is STEM Explorers from 4 to 5 p.m., where students in grades 4 through 6 can try hands-on experiments in science, technology, engineering and math. Then at 5:30 p.m., adults 18 and older can sit down for an American Mahjong session that runs until 7:30 p.m. All game sets are provided.

The back-to-back scheduling means a parent could drop off a fourth-grader for STEM Explorers and stay for mahjong afterward.

Both programs take place in the library's Programming Space at 131 N. 100 E. in Lehi. They are free but require a Lehi Library card and one ticket per person.

The library sits inside the Lehi Civic Center, which opened to the public on April 13. The nearly 11,500-square-foot library space includes dedicated areas for children, teens and adults, along with state-of-the-art technology, quiet study rooms and a recording studio. It marked a major upgrade for a city whose population has more than doubled in the past decade.

Attendees at library programs may be photographed under the library's standard consent notice.
