Three Highland residents received the city's Highland Heroes Awards for volunteer work that shaped local parks and trails.

Mayor Brittney P. Bills presented the awards to Brent and Sue Wallace, Brandon Balkman and Kristoffer Pagel, Highland City announced on its official Instagram page Wednesday, Aug. 26.

The Wallaces were recognized for neighborhood trail maintenance and Brent Wallace's service as Highland's Code Compliance Officer. The couple's award acknowledged both their hands-on upkeep of trails and Brent's role enforcing city standards.

Balkman earned his award for building Brandon's Trail and the disc golf course at Beacon Hills Park. The nine-hole course sits at 5959 W. Beacon Hill Blvd. and lists Balkman as its designer in the Professional Disc Golf Association's course directory. Each hole is par 2.

Pagel was honored for his efforts at Highland Glen Park, where he coordinated with Parks staff and Lone Peak Police on maintenance and safety needs. That work included helping rescue domestic ducks remaining at the park, a project carried out in partnership with Wasatch Wanderers Animal Rescue, a 501(c)(3) farm and exotic animal rescue in Utah.

The city's announcement did not include a specific ceremony date.
