The Aspen Peaks Board of Education locked in bus parking for roughly 80 Timpanogos School District buses on Thursday, Aug. 13, approving a three-year deal that keeps both districts sharing a single transportation yard in American Fork through the split.

The board, led by president Diane Knight, approved the Memorandum of Understanding giving Timpanogos a lease at 1405 S. 100 East with at least 90 parking stalls and 2.5 maintenance bays. Five support staff will be shared between the two districts.

No cash changes hands.

In years one and two, Timpanogos will transfer ownership of its allocated vehicle parts inventory to Aspen Peaks instead of paying rent. In year three, Timpanogos will install a portable administrative office trailer at the site and hand over ownership to satisfy the remaining lease fees. The arrangement lets Timpanogos stand up a working bus hub without building a separate facility, preserving startup cash reserves.

"We are so grateful for our partners in Aspen Peaks who have been willing to accommodate our needs and have afforded us this opportunity to continue our collaborative working relationship," Timpanogos superintendent Joe Jensen said. He added that the district worked to maximize resources while keeping its focus on students.

"We want Timpanogos SD to be successful and we are grateful that they are invested in our success," Aspen Peaks superintendent Dr. Joel Perkins said. "We are proud of our partnership and see this MOU as a manifestation of our shared desire to help all students."

Second partnership between the two districts

The transportation deal is the second operational agreement between Aspen Peaks and Timpanogos. In July 2026, their boards approved a separate MOU to jointly run Polaris High School and Summit High School, two alternative campuses, through 2030.

Timpanogos School District will serve more than 23,300 students across 29 schools in Lindon, Pleasant Grove, Orem and Vineyard when it begins operations July 1, 2027, according to KUTV reporting. Aspen Peaks, the largest of the three successor districts at 41.78% of Alpine's enrollment, covers Lehi, American Fork, Highland, Cedar Hills and Alpine.

Voters approved splitting Alpine School District into three new districts in November 2024. Alpine maintains full legal responsibility for all schools and assets until the July 1, 2027 handoff, according to the asset distribution agreement approved in June 2026.

The next major milestone is that July 1 launch date, when all three successor districts take full operational control.
