Lehi senior wide receiver Cam Wren landed on the Deseret News' statewide top-20 performers list for Week 1, and the quarterback he'll face Friday night made it too.

The Deseret News published its weekly honor roll on Wednesday, Aug. 19, recognizing Wren in the Class 6A section after he hauled in seven catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns in the Pioneers' 35-13 rout of Maple Mountain on Aug. 14. His first score was a 74-yard catch from quarterback Briggs Jensen in the first quarter; his second covered 21 yards in the third period.

Also on the 6A list: Mountain Ridge quarterback Jaxon Hunt, who completed 24-of-46 passes for four touchdowns in the Sentinels' 41-26 upset of Skyridge that same night. Hunt threw for 4,061 yards as a junior last season.

The two will share the field Friday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. when Lehi hosts Mountain Ridge.

Head coach Andy Hadfield told the Lehi Free Press on Aug. 18 that Mountain Ridge presents a unique challenge. "They are a well-coached team, and they do some things differently than a normal defense does. This gives us a chance to get better in a hurry," Hadfield said.

Mountain Ridge (1-0) enters riding momentum from a second-half surge against Skyridge, according to the Deseret News. The Sentinels trailed 20-13 at halftime before outscoring the Falcons 28-6 after the break. Junior running back Bradley Foster stepped in after starter Taniela Kinikini exited the first series with an apparent broken collarbone and rushed 29 times for 216 yards with a rushing and a receiving touchdown.

Sentinels head coach Nick Robins told the Deseret News after that Aug. 14 win that his team reversed a 45-point loss to Skyridge in last year's opener. "Once the other team makes mistakes, we're trying to absolutely stab 'em in the heart," Robins said.

Lehi (1-0) showed balance in its opener. Jensen finished 18-of-32 for 247 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, while senior running back Sam Verbecky ripped off 109 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns, including a 67-yard burst. The Pioneers built a 21-6 first-quarter lead and led 35-6 through three quarters.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. Friday at Lehi.
