Skyridge girls soccer broke a five-game losing streak to open the season with a 4-3 thriller over defending 6A state champion Syracuse on Friday, Aug. 21, at the Falcons' home pitch.

Senior forward Cambri Condie scored twice, including the equalizer in the 77th minute, and sophomore midfielder Lily Boren netted the winner two minutes later to cap a dramatic comeback for first-year head coach Jhoan Alvizo's squad.

The Falcons (1-5) had dropped every game since Aug. 4, including a 3-2 overtime loss at Mountain View on Aug. 14 and a 5-1 defeat at top-ranked Davis on Aug. 18. Against Syracuse, the team that upset No. 1 Lone Peak 2-0 to win last year's 6A title, Skyridge finally found its finishing touch.

How it unfolded

Senior forward Lexi Blood opened the scoring in the 14th minute off a Condie assist. Boren doubled the lead 10 minutes later, assisted by senior forward Saffron Osmond, and Skyridge carried a 2-1 advantage into halftime.

Syracuse equalized and then took the lead in the second half.

Skyridge trailed 3-2.

Condie's 77th-minute strike, assisted by Blood, pulled the Falcons level, and Boren sealed it in the 79th minute with sophomore defender Lydia Farnsworth providing the assist.

"It was great to finally see it all come together in the last preseason game," Alvizo told Lehi Free Press. "We are now looking at a good week of training and working on getting better to be ready for our first region game."

Alvizo, a Spanish and Portuguese teacher at Skyridge who took over from retired coach Toby Peterson this summer, said the preseason losses all came against quality opponents and that his team showed progress each week.

Region 3 starts Tuesday

The win closes out Skyridge's preseason schedule. The Falcons open Region 3 play at Lehi on Tuesday, Sept. 1, with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff, then host American Fork on Thursday, Sept. 3, at the same time.

Region 3 features Lone Peak, the preseason No. 1 team in 6A that went 18-2 last year, along with Corner Canyon, American Fork and Lehi. As we reported Aug. 1, Alvizo acknowledged before the season that Region 3 presents a steep challenge but said the competition prepares his players for the postseason.

Condie leads the Falcons with five goals through six games. Blood, who led the team with eight goals in 2025, has one goal and two assists through the preseason.
