No. 2-ranked Skyridge opens the Utah high school football season Thursday, Aug. 13, at preseason No. 5 Mountain Ridge, and local fans who can't make the trip will have two ways to watch: KJZZ and KMYU will simulcast the 7 p.m. kickoff, according to Deseret News TV listings published Saturday.

The dual-channel broadcast is an upgrade from the single KJZZ listing in earlier schedules, giving the preseason endowment game wider reach across the Wasatch Front.

The Falcons went 9-3 in 2025 and collected four first-place votes in the Class 6A preseason coaches poll, trailing only Corner Canyon. Head coach Justin Hemm has quarterback Jagger Fountaine and defensive coordinator Patrick Gleaves returning as the team prepares for a schedule that opens against Mountain Ridge's program.

"We know there's still work to do, but we like where we are headed as we prepare for the season and the challenges our schedule will bring each week," Hemm told the Lehi Free Press in late July, ahead of the team's Orange-Gray scrimmage.

Skyridge's home opener follows Friday, Aug. 21, against Orem.

Volleyball season tips off

The girls volleyball season also begins this week. Lone Peak, ranked No. 2 in the Class 6A preseason poll after a 19-11 campaign, and No. 3 Skyridge (27-3 in 2025) both open on the road. Lehi hosts Westlake on Tuesday, Aug. 11, with varsity first serve around 6:30 p.m. Skyridge travels to Pleasant Grove on Thursday, Aug. 13, also around 6:30 p.m.

Lone Peak Little League in regional action

Alpine's Lone Peak Little League is representing Utah at the Mountain Region Tournament in San Bernardino, California, after outscoring opponents 46-8 across four state championship games in Cedar City, the Lehi Free Press reported. The squad hit 13 home runs from nine different players and posted a 1.09 ERA with 39 strikeouts.

Lone Peak opened regional play Saturday, Aug. 8, against Colorado's Coal Creek Little League on ESPN+. Results from that game were not confirmed at publication time. The double-elimination tournament runs through Friday, Aug. 14, with the championship airing at 3 p.m. Mountain Time on ESPN. The winner advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, beginning Aug. 19.

Coach Mac Nelson, a Lehi resident, told the Lehi Free Press before the team departed that the players understand the weight of representing their community. "They are carrying their families, their league, Lehi and the entire state with them," Nelson said.

Lehi football hosts Maple Mountain in an endowment game Friday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. The Pioneers finished 6-4 last season. All competition this week takes place before the first day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
