Lone Peak's girls volleyball team stayed undefeated Tuesday, Aug. 25, but Syracuse made the Knights earn it. The Knights survived a third-set collapse and a nail-biting fourth set to win 3-1 at home, with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 18-25 and 26-24.

Both teams entered the match without a loss.

Lone Peak controlled the opening two sets, building leads and fending off Syracuse pushes to take them 25-22 and 25-23. A comfortable three-set sweep looked likely.

Then Syracuse flipped the script. After falling behind early in the third set, the Titans ripped off a 15-3 run to seize the set 25-18 and force a fourth.

The fourth set went point-for-point. Lone Peak needed 26-24 to close it out.

"A big thing we've been talking to our kids about is to always push back," head coach Kalee Faumui said after the match. "We don't ever want to be on our heels … It is just about continuing to push back every single time we're on the court and I think they did that tonight. When they got in big runs against us, we responded by pushing back."

Faumui said the Knights were missing some of their outside hitters for the match but credited balanced offense and strong serving for carrying the team. She called Lone Peak "a great serving team" with "nasty servers from the line" and said the balanced attack "catches a lot of people off guard."

Syracuse head coach Megan Allred's squad showed resilience in the loss, with Barkdull, Brinley Barkdull and Annie Hansen among the Titans who kept the pressure on throughout.
