Lone Peak senior Ava Jensen went 5-0 in singles play the week of Aug. 11 and led the Knights to the team title at the Utah Valley Ashton Invitational, earning Deseret News Week 3 girls tennis athlete of the week honors.

Jensen, the Knights' team captain, won four matches at the Ashton Invitational and picked up a fifth victory during the week to remain undefeated on the young season. The performance is all the more notable because Jensen switched from doubles to singles this year after winning the 6A second doubles state championship in October 2025 alongside partner Ella Bradford.

That title run wasn't close.

Jensen and Bradford defeated American Fork's Demi Dalton and Rylee Egbert 6-1, 6-0 in the championship match at the Eccles Tennis Center in Salt Lake City on Oct. 4, 2025.

Now playing singles as a senior, Jensen hasn't lost a step.

"Ava is an amazing captain who genuinely cares about the girls. She is passionate, competitive and always rises to the challenge — especially when facing unexpected opponents, which has led to her undefeated start to the season," Lone Peak coach Roger Baumgartner said.

Baumgartner praised Jensen's balance off the court as well, noting she carries a 4.0 GPA while captaining the team. The Knights are building on a strong foundation: Lone Peak won the 2025 6A girls tennis team state championship with 61 points, their first team crown since 2019, ending Skyridge's five-year reign. American Fork finished second with 43 points and Skyridge third with 40.

Jensen's move to singles gives the Knights another weapon in a lineup that already proved dominant at state last fall. Emmeline Smith and Ruby Bautista won first doubles, Jensen and Bradford claimed second doubles, and Halle Kitchen took the third singles title.

With Jensen undefeated and the team title at the Ashton Invitational already in hand, Lone Peak looks poised to defend that state crown when the 6A tournament arrives this fall.
