Four true freshmen from Lehi and Lone Peak high schools are expected to see the field when No. 14 BYU opens its season against Utah Tech on Saturday, Sept. 5. Multiple freshmen from the program's highest-ranked recruiting class earned playing time during preseason camp, which wrapped Tuesday.

Receiver Legend Glasker (Lehi), running back Devaughn Eka (Lehi), receiver Jaron Pula (Lone Peak) and offensive lineman Bott Mulitalo (Lone Peak) all made the 105-man roster. Offensive coordinator Aaron Roderick left no doubt about their readiness.

"Some of these guys are going to help us this season. Some of these freshmen are good enough to play," Roderick said at the conclusion of camp.

Glasker moves into starting rotation

Glasker, a 6-foot-2, 175-pound speedster who ran a 4.42-second 40-yard dash, graduated early from Lehi High in December 2025 and enrolled at BYU in January. He caught 37 passes for 676 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior for the Pioneers.

By the end of camp, Glasker was taking first-team reps alongside Oregon transfer Kyler Kasper and returning starter Jojo Phillips, according to the Deseret News. Defensive coordinator Kelly Poppinga said his unit was outplayed in the first scrimmage by Glasker and redshirt sophomore Reggie Frischknecht.

Former BYU linebacker coach Barry Lamb, who lives in Lehi and has watched Glasker play, told the Deseret News on Aug. 12 that the freshman is "very talented, extremely skilled and will make an impact immediately in the program."

Pula's upside, Eka's role

Jaron Pula, a four-star recruit ranked No. 8 in Utah by 247Sports, caught 57 passes for 834 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior at Lone Peak, helping the Knights reach the 6A state championship game. He and twin brother Kennan Pula flipped their commitments from Utah to BYU in December 2025.

Pula dealt with a nagging injury during camp, per BYU on SI, but receivers coach Fesi Sitake said when healthy, Pula is as physically talented as anyone in the wide receiver room. He could emerge as a factor later in the season.

Eka, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound back from Lehi, is in the mix behind starter LJ Martin and Sione Moa. Roderick confirmed Eka will see the field this year.

Mulitalo earns first-team reps

Mulitalo may be the highest-profile recruit of the bunch. The 6-foot-5, four-star tackle flipped from Oregon to BYU and is rated the No. 3 prospect in Utah and No. 136 nationally by 247Sports. He played defense at Lone Peak before switching to left tackle as a senior.

On the final day of camp, Mulitalo took first-team reps at right tackle. Offensive line coach TJ Woods said the freshman is very talented but lacks experience, adding that it is rare for a true freshman to start. Mulitalo is expected to serve as a primary backup at multiple positions along the line.

BYU senior lineman Andrew Gentry, a national champion transfer from Michigan, called Mulitalo "one of the best athletes I've seen as an offensive lineman" in a Lawless Republic profile published during fall camp.

What's next

BYU hosts Utah Tech on Saturday, Sept. 5, then welcomes Arizona on Saturday, Sept. 12. At least a half-dozen freshmen from the Cougars' 2026 class, ranked second in the Big 12 by 247Sports, could see playing time in the opener.
