A medallion worth $200 is hiding somewhere on public land in Highland, and residents have until Saturday, Aug. 1, to find it.

Highland City launched the 2026 Highland Fling Medallion Hunt on Thursday, July 30, kicking off a three-day community treasure hunt that has become a recurring festival tradition. The medallion could be tucked along any trail, park, or familiar public space within city limits.

New clues drop each morning at 10 a.m. on the Highland Fling's official Facebook page and Instagram account (@highlandcityutah). The first clue went live Thursday morning. Whoever spots the medallion first takes home the keepsake plus $200 cash.

Highland City confirmed the hunt is underway in a post on X Thursday, wishing residents good luck.

The search ends Saturday, Aug. 1, or the moment someone finds it.

Part of a packed Fling week

The medallion hunt runs alongside four days of events at Heritage Park, 10400 N. Alpine Hwy. Here's what's still ahead:

Friday, July 31, Luau Night: Strongman Competition (4:30–8:30 p.m.), island entertainment, food trucks, and a Movie in the Park screening of Lilo & Stitch at 9 p.m.

Saturday, Aug. 1, Grand Day: A 5K at 7 a.m., the Grand Parade at 9 a.m., Highland Games, a vendor fair, food trucks, the America 250 Celebration (10 a.m.–5 p.m.) with colonial demonstrations from the Colonial Heritage Foundation, a Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband concert at 6 p.m., Fleetwood Visions at 8 p.m., and fireworks at 10 p.m.

This year's Grand Marshals are Rod and Suzanne Mann, Highland residents of more than 23 years. Rod served on the Highland City Council and as mayor; Suzanne chaired the Highland Fling Baby Celebration for seven years. "We feel incredibly blessed to live here," the Manns said in their festival biography on the Highland City website. "This is the best community we've ever been part of."

How to play

The rules are simple: follow the Highland Fling Facebook and Instagram pages, check for a new clue each morning at 10, and search Highland's public property. The medallion is not on private land.
