Alpine residents stuck with sluggish internet may soon have a new option. CentraCom, a Fairview-based fiber provider already operating in Lehi, is expanding into Alpine and plans to build out its network in the city's most underserved neighborhoods first.

Alpine City announced the expansion Sunday, Aug. 23, on its official X account, asking residents with upload or download speeds below 1 gigabit to email Mayor Carla Merrill at [email protected]. Merrill will relay that data to CentraCom so the company can target its initial deployment where connectivity gaps are worst.

The announcement follows a city survey posted July 18 that asked residents for feedback on high-speed fiber internet, a sign Alpine had been exploring broadband options for weeks before making the CentraCom partnership public.

Who is CentraCom?

CentraCom owns and operates a statewide fiber-optic network spanning both metro and rural Utah, according to the company's website. Its residential plans advertise download speeds up to 1 Gbps. In Lehi, the company's FiOX brand already offers speeds up to 10 Gbps, making Alpine a natural next step along the I-15 corridor.

The company has been on an expansion tear. In June 2025 it brought gig-speed fiber to Meadow and Kanosh and completed infrastructure upgrades in Santaquin. It acquired Manti Telephone Company in October 2023 and fixed-wireless provider NeboNet in 2021.

What residents should do

The city's announcement sets the threshold at speeds "less than 1 GB," which in practice covers most residential internet plans in the Alpine area. Residents who want to be prioritized in the rollout should email Merrill directly with details about their current speeds.

No timeline has been set. No construction start date or Alpine-specific pricing has been announced either. CentraCom's existing residential plans elsewhere in Utah start at $35.95 per month, though the company has not confirmed what Alpine customers will pay.

The Alpine City Council has a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25. Residents can reach Mayor Merrill at [email protected].
