Students across Alpine School District's 86,645-student system won't be able to log in to Chromebooks or Google accounts on the first day of school if their parents don't complete a required online form before Aug. 19.

The district rolled out three new technology platforms this summer, and one carries a hard deadline: parents must log in to the new Skyward Qmlativ student information system, complete the Annual Student Information Update for each child and acknowledge the district's Acceptable Use Policy. Until that's done, accounts stay frozen.

"Probably the most important thing we would ask parents to do right now is log in to the new Skyward Q system and complete the Annual Student Information Update and Acceptable Use Policy for each of their students before school begins," Darren Draper, Alpine School District's administrator of technology and digital innovation, told Lehi Free Press. "This will ensure that their students can log in to the various technology systems their teachers will ask them to use during the first weeks of school."

What changed and why

Skyward Qmlativ, which the district calls "Skyward Q," went live July 27. It replaces the Skyward version Alpine used for 18 years. Parents can log in with their existing Skyward username and password. Those who use the Skyward mobile app must delete and reinstall it so it connects to the new system.

The district is also switching fee payments from MySchoolFees, which discontinued its platform, to SchoolCash Online. Families should receive an email invitation with instructions for creating an account and linking their students. Those who don't receive an invitation can contact their school's front office. Some course-related fees may appear at different times as individual schools finish setup.

For secondary students at middle and high schools, the district is replacing Clever with ClassLink as its single sign-on platform for Chromebook access. Students will use the same district username and password, but the login screen and app dashboard will look different.

Tied to the 2027 split

Draper said the changes are driven largely by the district's scheduled reconfiguration into three independent districts beginning July 1, 2027. Each new district will need its own student information system, and moving to Skyward Q now gives staff time to learn the platform while existing teams are still together. That gives each successor district a stronger starting point, Draper said.

The district serving Alpine, Highland, Cedar Hills, Lehi and surrounding communities will operate as Aspen Peaks School District, as we reported July 29.

What parents need to do now

1. Log in to Skyward Q at the district's portal using existing Skyward credentials.
2. Complete the Annual Student Information Update for each enrolled student.
3. Review and acknowledge the Acceptable Use Policy.
4. Watch for a SchoolCash Online email invitation to set up fee payments.
5. Delete and reinstall the Skyward mobile app if applicable.

The first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 19.
