The former Eddie Bauer storefront at the Outlets at Traverse Mountain will reopen in August as a Spirit Halloween pop-up, filling a space that has sat empty since the outdoor retailer closed during Catalyst Brands' February bankruptcy.
Spirit Halloween's store page is already live on the Outlets at Traverse Mountain website, listing the seasonal retailer as a tenant at 3700 North Cabelas Blvd. in Lehi. The mall's online directory marks the store "Coming Soon!" but does not yet list hours or a phone number.
The Lehi location is one of 16 Spirit Halloween stores opening across Utah in August, ABC4 reported Thursday, July 30. A second Utah Valley location will open at the former JoAnn store at 640 East State Road in American Fork, also in August.
No exact date has been set.
Why the space was vacant
Eddie Bauer's parent company, Catalyst Brands, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Feb. 9, citing $1.7 billion in debt, weak sales, and rising costs from inflation and tariffs. The filing triggered liquidation of roughly 175 to 200 Eddie Bauer stores across the U.S. and Canada, with closing sales projected to wrap up before April 30.
Marc Rosen, CEO of Catalyst Brands, said in a February statement accompanying the bankruptcy filing: "This is not an easy decision. However, this restructuring is the best way to optimize value for the retail company's stakeholders."
Eddie Bauer no longer appears in the Outlets at Traverse Mountain's tenant directory, confirming the Lehi storefront cleared out as part of that national wind-down.
What it means for the corridor
Spirit Halloween's business model relies on snapping up vacant retail spaces for seasonal runs from August through late October. The chain operated more than 1,500 stores across North America in 2025.
For the Outlets at Traverse Mountain, the tenancy fills a visible gap along the I-15 Exit 284 shopping corridor, even if only temporarily. The outlet mall markets itself as Utah's only outlet shopping destination, with more than 50 stores.
Whether a permanent tenant eventually replaces Eddie Bauer at the address remains unclear. Spirit Halloween stores typically operate through Halloween, which falls on Saturday, Oct. 31, this year.
