Skyridge girls soccer will open its 2026 season Tuesday under a new head coach who already knows the hallways.

Jhoan Alvizo, a Spanish and Portuguese teacher at the school, takes over the Falcons after Toby Peterson retired following last season. Peterson coached Skyridge for five years, compiling a 49-46 record, but his final campaign ended 5-14 and with a 0-4 state tournament loss to Farmington on Oct. 14, 2025.

Alvizo inherits a roster heavy on experience. He told Lehi Free Press that his senior class will drive the team's identity this fall, saying all of them can make an impact whether starting or coming off the bench.

Four returners stand out.

Senior Lexi Blood led the squad in scoring last season with eight goals and one assist from her attacking position. Senior Bentley Knight anchors the midfield, where Alvizo expects her to be the tactical engine.

"She is one of our strongest players on this team and will help the midfield in what we are trying to get our girls to do tactically," Alvizo said of Knight.

Junior Hallee Sheffield added two goals and an assist through the middle of the field last year, and senior Gracie Watts recorded one assist while marshaling the back line.

Skyridge competes in 6A Region 3 alongside American Fork, Corner Canyon, Lehi and Lone Peak. Alvizo called the league "the region of death" but said the competition prepares his players for the postseason's knockout rounds.

The Falcons host Olympus on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 5 p.m. for the season opener, then head south for a three-match road trip: at Desert Hills on Thursday, Aug. 6, at 8 p.m.; at Crimson Cliffs on Friday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m.; and at Snow Canyon on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 7:30 p.m.

Three additional pre-region matches follow before Skyridge opens Region 3 play at Lehi on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 3:30 p.m.
