No. 10 Lehi will travel to No. 7 Lone Peak on Friday, Oct. 30, in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs, Lehi Free Press reported. Both teams finished the regular season 5-5.
The matchup is a rematch. Lone Peak beat Lehi 14-7 in a Region 3 game on Oct. 8, a defensive battle in which the Pioneers drove deep into Knights territory in the final minutes before being ruled inches short of the line to gain. The Knights took a knee to run out the clock.
In that game, senior quarterback Briggs Jensen completed 20 of 30 passes for 200 yards. Senior wide receiver Cam Wren had 10 receptions for 112 yards. Lone Peak managed just 171 total yards against the Pioneer defense.
Pioneers close regular season at Corner Canyon
Lehi wrapped up the regular season with a 34-7 loss at Corner Canyon on Oct. 14. Senior linebacker Brody Downs and senior linebacker Colt Kelley each recorded 17 total tackles. Senior linebacker Paul Unga added 13, and senior defensive lineman Tautai Meredith had 10 with three hurries.
Jensen connected with Wren on a seven-yard touchdown for Lehi's only score. Wren finished with nine receptions for 65 yards and 113 yards in kick returns.
The Pioneers finished in a three-way tie for third place in Region 3. All five of the top five teams in the Class 6A MaxPreps rankings come from the region.
Hadfield: 'It all resets now to 0-0'
Lehi head coach Andy Hadfield said the Corner Canyon loss gave his team a clear picture heading into the postseason.
"I told the team after this game that it all resets now to 0-0 and every team will be better and play harder," Hadfield told Lehi Free Press.
He said the Pioneers would spend the week addressing areas that need fixing before turning to the Lone Peak game plan.
What's next
A Lehi win on Oct. 30 would send the Pioneers to the quarterfinals on Nov. 6 against either No. 2 Mountain Ridge (10-0) or No. 15 Cedar Valley (1-9) at the higher seed's home field. The default start time for playoff games is 6 p.m.
