The Lone Peak Knights lost a state championship on Oct. 24. On Tuesday, Aug. 4, they start the climb back.

Lone Peak opens its 2026 girls soccer season at home against Park City at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, ranked No. 1 in Class 6A's preseason coaches poll after finishing last year 18-2 overall and a perfect 8-0 in Region 3. The Knights led 6A in both goals scored (3.1 per game) and goals allowed (0.5 per game) in 2025, then steamrolled through the state bracket before Syracuse shut them out 2-0 in the championship game at America First Field in Sandy.

That loss ended a two-year title streak.

Head coach Shantel Jolley, now in her ninth year at Lone Peak with a 126-20 career record, told the Deseret News her team faces a transition despite the lofty ranking.

"We've had a really good run the last few years and we are now looking at a smaller senior class to lead us into this next season," Jolley said. "We're going to rely on some good young talent for this season that hopefully can keep our standard and expectations up high."

Who's back

The Knights return five contributors who logged significant minutes during last year's title run. Senior forward Sadie Stratton and senior midfielder Ada Villarreal anchor the upperclassman group, while juniors Macie Leavitt (midfielder), Sami Schiffman (forward), and Nya Piercy (defender) form the core of a younger but experienced class.

Three newcomers could make an immediate impact: senior goalkeeper Scotlyn Schlosser, sophomore forward Sasha Casto, and sophomore midfielder Katherine Mason.

The target on their backs

Lone Peak isn't flying under anyone's radar. Lehi girls soccer coach Jonas Hartmann, speaking to the Lehi Free Press on Saturday, Aug. 1, in a season preview, named the Knights among the teams he expects to make a state tournament run alongside Syracuse and Davis.

The schedule won't let Lone Peak ease in. After the Park City opener, the Knights travel to Ridgeline on Friday, Aug. 7, then to Green Canyon on Sunday, Aug. 9, before hosting Crimson Cliffs on Tuesday, Aug. 11. A marquee early-season test arrives Tuesday, Aug. 25, when defending state champion Syracuse visits Highland for a non-region rematch of last year's title game.

Region 3 and beyond

Region play opens Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Corner Canyon. The Knights host Lehi on Thursday, Sept. 3, host American Fork on Tuesday, Sept. 29, and host Skyridge on Thursday, Oct. 1. The state tournament is expected in late October, consistent with prior years.

Lone Peak's path back to the final starts Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 4 p.m. in Highland.
