Lehi Pioneers sophomore Jake Welch earned Spring 2026 All-City Baseball Most Valuable Player honors, capping a season in which the shortstop/pitcher batted .485 with five home runs and posted a 2.10 ERA on the mound.

The Lehi Free Press announced the All-City selections on Wednesday, July 22. Welch and Skyridge Falcons senior Miles Robinson headlined the list, with Robinson earning Most Inspirational Player after returning from hamate bone surgery that cost him half the season.

Welch's breakout sophomore campaign

Welch led Lehi with 123 plate appearances and struck out just 11 times all spring. He finished with 47 hits, 29 RBI, 12 doubles, two triples, 16 stolen bases, a .585 on-base percentage, and a 1.389 OPS. His 40 runs scored ranked in the state top 20.

Defensively, Welch recorded 66 putouts, 32 assists, and nine double plays at shortstop with a .942 fielding percentage. In eight pitching appearances, he struck out 30 batters against just four walks and five earned runs.

"He's the best player I have ever coached," Lehi head coach Eric Madsen said in his All-City nomination. "He changed games defensively, offensively, and when he pitched. He's also an unbelievable kid off the field, a great student who has great pride in Lehi."

Coaching transition ahead

The All-City honors mark the final season under Lehi head coach Eric Madsen. Lehi Athletics announced on Monday, June 30, that Riley White, a two-year assistant under Madsen, will take over as head coach for the Pioneers' next campaign.
