Lone Peak's girls cross country team scored 27 points to win the Border Wars meet Sunday, Sept. 13, at Valley Regional Park in Taylorsville. The Knights put five runners in the top 18.

Davis finished a distant second with 92 points. The 65-point margin led the Deseret News to call the performance "one of its most impressive performances of the season."

Senior Maya Bybee led the Knights with a first-place finish in 18:05.67. Bybee, ranked No. 38 nationally in DyeStat's early-season top 100, opened her fall season by winning the UIAAA Invitational in 17:32.5.

Brighton junior Bridget Smit took second in 18:19.55. Lone Peak senior Hailey Atwater was right behind in third at 18:26.75.

The Knights packed five scorers into the top 18. Camille Shields placed 10th in 19:04.95, Paityn Rohatinsky 13th in 19:17.58 and Tatum Brewer 16th in 19:21.02. Teagan Harris added a 24th-place finish in 19:40.76.

Highland's Lena Buccambuso turned in a 14th-place finish in 19:19.20. Lehi's Laney Martin placed 20th in 19:35.10. Lehi finished fourth as a team with 153 points.

Lehi boys edge Davis by two points

The boys race was decided by two points. Lehi scored 60 to Davis's 62.

Davis senior Harrison Skousen won the individual title in 15:42.34, but the Pioneers countered with four runners in the top 21. Owen McMullin led Lehi in fourth place at 16:03.39, followed by Everett Quist in eighth (16:09.01), Brayden Barlow in ninth (16:10.41) and Milo Amakasu in 21st (16:25.43).

Lone Peak senior Caden Bybee finished third overall in 15:56.49, giving the Bybee family a pair of podium finishes on the day.
