Five different Pioneers found the net as Lehi rolled past defending state champion Bountiful 5-1 on Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the season opener at Bountiful.

Lehi controlled the match after a shaky opening stretch, building a 3-0 halftime lead before adding two more after the break. Bountiful didn't break through until about the 75th minute, according to head coach Jonas Hartmann, when Kayd Kupfer converted on an assist from Myka Page.

Hartmann said his team needed a moment to settle in against the Redhawks' early pressure.

"Bountiful came out strong and put a lot of pressure on us early and it took a minute to find our composure but once we did the game was flowing well for us," Hartmann told the Deseret News after the match.

Presley Shippen, Tessa Richards and Kajsa Sherman each scored in the first half, with Lillie Watson and Chloe Fritch adding second-half goals. Sherman also recorded an assist. Ashley Gardner distributed the ball all night, finishing with two assists.

Hartmann singled out Aly Badger's work in central midfield and praised Richards for her two-way play on the wing. He credited the team's tactical adjustments in dealing with Bountiful's loaded midfield as a key factor in the lopsided result.

The performance validated what Hartmann said in a Lehi Free Press preview published Aug. 1: "I am very excited about the talent we possess this year, and I expect us to be a serious contender."

Watson, now a junior, led the Pioneers in scoring last season with 15 goals and four assists, finishing second in Region 3 goals. Richards (3 goals, 2 assists in 2025) and Badger (2 goals, 3 assists) give Lehi attacking depth across the formation. Lehi (1-0) hosts Riverton for its home opener Thursday, Aug. 6, at 3:30 p.m. Region 3 play begins Sept. 1 at home against Skyridge at 3:30 p.m.
