Highland families looking for a way to keep young children entertained during the Highland Fling now have a free tool: the city's Kids Adventure Guide, a scavenger-hunt-style activity resource with challenges and stops scattered across Heritage Park.

Highland City announced the guide on X on Thursday, July 23, describing it as a resource packed with activities, challenges, and stops around the festival for the whole family. The guide is confirmed for Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. until dark at Heritage Park in Highland. The city has not specified how families pick up the guide; check Highland City's social media for distribution details.

The four-day Highland Fling kicks off Thursday, July 30, and runs through Sunday, August 2, at Heritage Park. As we reported July 28, the festival features themed nights, live music, food vendors, and a fireworks finale that launches from Highland Family Park.

More for kids on Saturday

The Kids Adventure Guide isn't the only family activity on August 1. Highland City is also hosting a Passport to America Challenge as part of its America 250 celebration. Families pick up a passport at the America 250 Information Booth, visit stops throughout the festival to collect checkmarks, and return the completed passport to the booth. The first 250 participants to finish receive a limited-edition America 250 commemorative pin, according to the city's Instagram page.

The America 250 celebration follows the Highland Fling Parade on Saturday, August 1, and features Historical Discovery Booths with colonial crafts including a printing press, a Declaration of Independence display, basket makers, a rope maker, fiber arts demonstrations, and a Mayflower exhibit. The Colonial Heritage Foundation is running those booths, as we reported earlier this week.

Between the Kids Adventure Guide, the Passport to America Challenge, and the living-history booths, Saturday shapes up as the most family-dense day of the four-day festival.
