Highland's annual summer festival kicks off with a Home Run Derby on Thursday, July 30, giving residents a chance to compete for prizes before the bigger weekend events roll into Heritage Park.

The competition runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at 10400 N 5600 W, a location separate from Heritage Park where most main Fling activities take place. Highland City announced the event on its official X account on Wednesday, July 29, encouraging participants to bring their best swing and compete for prizes.

Fling week continues through Saturday

The Home Run Derby is one of several events spread across Highland Fling week, which runs Thursday, July 30, through Saturday, August 1. The festival's marquee events, including Highland Games, a parade, Irish dancers, and fireworks, are scheduled for Saturday, August 1, at Heritage Park.
